#Showbiz: Malaysia Day date with 'Mat Kilau' on Netflix

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of Datuk Adi Putra can catch Malaysia's top-selling film Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan on Netflix beginning Sept 16 which is Malaysia Day.

Netflix confirmed via a YouTube video yesterday that Mat Kilau, directed by Syamsul Yusof, will be available on its streaming platform as a special Malaysia Day gift for subscribers.

"The date is timely as it is Malaysia Day, the nation's birthday, and Mat Kilau played by Adi is a great patriot from Pahang who fought for freedom from foreign colonialism," said Netflix in the video.

Mat Kilau which also stars Beto Kusyairy, Fattah Amin, Johan As'ari, Wan Hanafi Su, Datuk Rahim Razali, Namron, Shaharuddin Thamby, Ellie Suriaty Omar, Mubarak Majid and Zarina Zainoordin was made with an RM8 million budget and raked in RM90 million within two months of its June 23 release.

Syamsul had earlier expressed surprise when Netflix offered to buy the film for RM7 million.

The film's producer Abdul Rahman Mat Dali said that his company Studio Kembara had no plans to sell the film to the streaming platform yet.
