#Showbiz: 'I only agreed because I thought it was another CSR project' – Noraniza Idris

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Noraniza Idris has denied having any vested interest with a property consultancy company behind a project which is allegedly a fraud.

The 54-year-old artiste also added that after she was introduced to the individual behind the project dubbed Rumahku Syurgaku Scheme, she was invited to be part of the project as its trustee and ambassador.

"However, everything was only done verbally. No official agreement was signed," she explained during a special press conference at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur Hotel yesterday.

She initially accepted the offer seeing that it was akin to other corporate social responsibility she had been involved with all this while.

"My main intention was to help veteran artistes to own a house, and those who have been jobless," she said.

However, on Aug 27, Noraniza found out that her name was dropped from the project.

"Maybe it was because I had made lots of queries about the project, that the individual had decided to remove my name altogether," explained Noraniza of the project which recently became viral on social media for allegedly being a scam.

Distraught with this controversy, coupled with other reasons, the singer which is synonymous with ethnic pop music, had earlier this week, announced the postponement of her mega concert originally slated for next month at Istana Budaya.

"This controversy really messed up everything, it even affected the sales of the concert tickets. So after some discussion with my management team, we decided to postpone the concert to a later date," she said.

Earlier last month, the project introduced a scheme offering a house worth RM500,000 each to participating artistes, with a mere RM10 fee.

Among others, it drew the attention of activist Mona Din, who called for the authorities to investigate the legitimacy of this project and the company.

Mona was also reported as claiming that two female artistes had been roped in to co-ordinate the scheme among veteran artistes and production crew members involving 1,000 units of houses.
