#Showbiz: YKAT contributes monetary aid to 15 veteran artistes, in light of Deepavali celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: Continuing its support for veteran artistes which include actors, singers and musicians, Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair (YKAT) yesterday reached out to 15 of them who are 60 and above.

Held in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations, among the recipients were Leo Kee Low (musician, 72), Vasudevan A/L Panickiar (singer, 68), Lee Chee Keong (actor, 68), Sega A/L Ratanam (singer, 68), Fatimah Abu Bakar (actress, 67), Noor Kumalasari (actress, 68), and Fauziah Ahmad Daud (actress, 60).

They each received RM1,000 in cash.

YKAT president Datuk DJ Dave said that the contributions were a token of appreciation for the artistes' contribution towards the country's entertainment industry throughout their career.

He said the RM15,000 contribution came from funds received from the government since the association's inception in 2012.

"The funds have been carefully utilised by YKAT management to carry out various activities to assist in the welfare of the creative community.

"We hope to continue to receive support from various parties whether it be in terms of funds or sponsorship, so that we can continue to help those in need," he added in a statement today.
