#Showbiz: Experimental Japanese band Mono to rock KL in November

KUALA LUMPUR: Japanese experimental rock band Mono will be holding a concert at KLPAC's Pentas 1, here on Nov 22.

Inspired by a variety of experimental, avant-rock and classical artistes that defy genres, the quartet will be in town as part of its Pilgrimage Of The Soul Asia Tour.

The group released its latest and 11th studio album Pilgrimage Of The Soul last year, which was recorded and mixed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in mid-2020.

The aptly named album not only represents the peaks and valleys of the band enters its third decade of music but also charts Mono's long, steady journey to this time and place.

Continuing the subtle but profound creative progression of Mono's repertoire of instrumental music that began with Nowhere Now Here (2019), Pilgrimage Of The Soul is arguably the most dynamic Mono album to date.

Where Mono's foundation was built on the well-established interplay of whisper quiet and devastatingly loud, Pilgrimage Of The Soul crafts its magic with mesmerising new electronic instrumentation and textures, perhaps most notably with faster tempos that are clearly influenced by disco and techno.

It all comes together as the most unexpected Mono album to date, replete with surprises and as awash in splendour as anything the band has ever done.

Mono began in Japan at the end of 1999 as a young band equally inspired by the pioneers of moody experimental rock (My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai) and iconic classical composers (Beethoven, Morricone) who came before them.

Since then, it has evolved into one of the most inspiring and influential experimental rock bands out there.

It is only fitting that the band's evolution has come at the glacial, methodical pace that its brand of patient music demands.

Mono is a band that puts serious value in nuance and offers significant rewards for the wait.

Presented by Soundscape Records & Productions, the concert on Nov 22 begins at 8pm.

Tickets, priced at RM158, RM148 and RM128 can be purchased online via https://www.cloudjoi.com (No phone sales and over the counter sales. E-tickets only).
