#Showbiz: Ruth Sahanaya mesmerises with mellifluous show at DFP

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian singer Ruth Sahanaya gave some 800 fans a satisfying trip down memory lane during her live concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) tonight.

The Bandung-born pop and R&B diva, fondly known as Uthe, easily charmed her appreciative audience with her easy-going presence and powerful vocal work during the two-hour concert.

"How are you Malaysia? It's a great honour to perform in this prestigious building. I'm so blessed, this is my second time performing here.

"I want you all to be happy and enjoy yourself. Let's have some fun!" said Ruth to the delight of fans.

Looking much younger than her age, the 56-year-old artiste backed by a solid 10-member live band performed 16 songs that chronicled her 35-year-career.

Popular tunes such as Kaulah Segalanya, Seputih Kasih, Memori, Merenda Kasih, Astaga and Selamanya got fans in the hall excited and they sang along to most of the well-delivered numbers.

Some of the other dazzling performances included Keliru, Thankful and the upbeat Bawa Daku Pergi, which got many audience members dancing on their feet.

Having first stolen hearts with her impressive singing style and moving tunes in the early 1990s, the accomplished singer has since become an international sensation performing in solo concerts as well as with fellow Indonesian powerhouse singers, Kris Dayanti and Titi DJ, as the 3 Divas.

Ruth also garnered the Best Selling Album award at Anugerah Industri Musik Indonesia and the Best Selling Indonesian Album award at Anugerah Industri Muzik Malaysia back in 1999.

The magical concert came to a close with a heartfelt performance of Andaikan Kau Datang which garnered rousing applause from the ecstatic crowd that included fellow artistes such as Datuk Sheila Majid, Datuk Acis, Camelia and Noryn Aziz.

The multi award-winning singer was in town to perform as part of the Fabulous Friday Presents series organised by Shiraz Projects.
