#Showbiz: Singer Marafikha's lungs pierced to drain fluids

KUALA LUMPUR: After over a month of being hospitalised due to Covid-19, singer Mafarikha Akhir has to now contend with lung infection.

The 29-year-old artiste fondly known as Mafa said that although she has tested negative for the coronavirus, her right lung is filled with fluids.

To recover, the fluids have to be drained by punching holes in the front and back of her body.

"During the first day of the procedure, about 3.2 litres of fluid was drained out. It's an ongoing process and up till now, I think over 4 litres of fluid have been extracted.

"When someone gets this disease, the lungs will be scarred and it would take a long time to heal.

"My lungs are no longer like any other healthy person. After being pierced to drain the fluids there is a possibility of air entering it.

"It was a simple procedure carried out while I was conscious but it was very painful," she said in a Harian Metro report yesterday.

Although she never thought this would happen to her, Mafa is keeping positive about her condition.

"I'm speechless. I never expected to be this sick to the point of having to stay in the hospital for so long. I just can't think of what will happen in the future, just taking things slowly day by day.

"There are times when I'm a little disappointed with myself as the recovery process is just too slow. But I have to accept that the process will take quite a long while," she said.

The singer added that she is unsure of how much longer she will be required to be in the hospital since she is still receiving ongoing treatment in order to fully recover.

"I still have to take my antibiotics for six weeks. To fully recover, I'm not sure. The doctor says that it will take quite a while," she said.

On Oct 24, Mafa was admitted to the critical ward of a medical centre in Kajang, Selangor after contracting Stage 5 Covid-19.
