#Showbiz: Radio announcer's luggage broken into during flight home from Spain

KUALA LUMPUR: Radio station Mix FM's announcer Prem Shanker and his wife Kara Simon recently returned to the federal capital after a long flight, but had the shock of their lives.

The couple discovered that their luggage had been forcibly broken into but fortunately, nothing was stolen.

Mix FM Breakfast Show host Prem, 39, and United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR) member Kara, 33, highlighted their plight on Instagram yesterday.

A day earlier, they had arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after a flight home from Madrid, Spain and stopped over at Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates' capital.

Prem said: "Upon collecting our luggage, we noticed that the protective cover on one of the bags was missing, and the zippers and luggage lock had been broken.

"We thought it was just the cover that was ripped away, maybe due to the baggage carousel.

"And as for the break in the lock, I didn't think too much of it because it happens."

The couple waited more than 40 minutes to collect their luggage and had to rush home for a close friend's wedding.

It was only after they returned home from the party that they decided to unpack.

"We found items which appeared to belong to other passengers.

These ranged from perfume, clothes, receipts, a doctor's letter written in a foreign language, a small statuette, lacy lingerie, a bag tag for Aerolineas Argentinas, which is an Argentinian airline, and our luggage cover," said Prem.

"Clearly, somebody took the cover off and stuffed it in there.

"Imagine drugs being put inside our bag and then being stopped by Malaysian customs."

Prem and Kara are looking for answers on who may have been responsible for the incident and have contacted all parties involved.

Etihad Airways has responded to the couple's post on Instagram and is currently investigating.

Some Netizens told Prem about their own experiences and explained what might have happened.

Prem's old friend, singer, television host, actress and radio announcer Hunny Madu said that whoever was responsible probably broke into multiple suitcases at once, and haphazardly stuffed their belongings back into the bags.

"They must have opened a few other bags and as time was running out they quickly repacked everything. So sorry this happened to you and luckily nothing valuable was taken."
