#Showbiz: Syamsul Yusof must prove that he was slandered, says lawyer

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil lawyer, Hafez Zalkipli of Messrs Mohd Amin, Ng & Associates says that Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan director Syamsul Yusof cannot fix the RM10 million amount in his lawsuit against the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI).

Hafez said that only the courts could decide on the amount.

"He also must prove that he was subjected to slander. We have to wait and see what type of personal information is revealed in the court case, and if the documents become public documents, his action will not have any basis," he said in a news report today.

Hafez also said that the Abang Long Fadil actor had to prove that he was clearly slandered, and that his reputation and image had been lowered in the eyes of the public.

"He has to prove that the exact words said by JAWI were slanderous based on an objective test, and the context has to be taken into consideration."

Syamsul is suing JAWI for RM10 million for allegedly revealing personal information that is deemed slanderous.

The lawsuit is linked to his on-going marital problems, where his actress wife of eight years, Puteri Sarah Liyana has alleged that Ira Kazar, the daughter of veteran actor Kazar Saisi, has been "wrecking their marriage".
