#Showbiz: Ne-Yo mesmerises R&B fans with nostalgic KL concert [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: American R&B singer, songwriter and record producer Ne-Yo took 2,900 music fans down memory lane during his live concert at the Plenary Hall in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here tonight.

"Beautiful people of Malaysia, how you doing?

"It's an honour and a pleasure to meet you! Ne-Yo is all about the music," he said during the 90-minute concert.

He added: "I'm happy to be back. Thank you so much for waiting. It's party time!"

Accompanied by a solid four-member live band and three backup dancers, the 43-year-old multiple Grammy-winning artiste performed over 20 songs.

Some of the hit tracks that he belted out were Miss Independent, So Sick, Sexy Love, Do You, Closer, Because Of You, One In A Million and She Knows to the delight of the appreciative audience.

The sold-out concert, organised by Hitman Solutions, also saw the US singer performing Don't Love Me, What If, You Got The Body and U 2 Luv.

Easily charming the packed hall with his witty banter, cool moves, sharp dressing and mellifluous singing voice, the crowd responded by singing along to his hit songs.

There were moments where the mesmerised audience took to their feet to dance along as well.

"A Ne-Yo show has classic songs and future classics.

"Those classic songs of mine that remind you of things like your first kiss.

"And future classics that you might not know that well but I promise you'll soon rock to," he said.

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, was in town as part of the Asia leg of his tour to promote his ninth studio album, Self Explanatory, which was released in July last year.

He became an international star during the early 2000s after writing the hit song Let Me Love You for singer Mario which he also performed during the concert.

The last time Ne-Yo was in Malaysia was back in 2010 for a concert at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach.

Ne-Yo ended his Live in Malaysia 2023 concert with an encore set where he performed Let's Go, Give Me Everything and Time Of Our Lives.
