#Showbiz: Catch the MPO's 'Let's Tour The World: III' concert on Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will be bringing music fans on a musical tour around the world in a concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) this Saturday (March 18).

MPO resident conductor Gerard Salonga will lead this family-themed voyage of global music with a classical flair that begins at 11.30am.

First, the MPO will bring the audience to Sabah with a song about a popular landmark, Jambatan Tamparuli, which showcases the diverse cultures of its people through the traditional sounds of Malaysia.

Then, the MPO heads off to Mongolia with Borodin's In the Steppes of Central Asia as part of the 25th anniversary of the reign of Tsar Alexander II.

Enjoy the eastern melodies from Russia before the MPO brings travels to Galanta, Slovakia, where the audience will enjoy some folk and gypsy dances in Dances of Galanta composed by Hungarian artiste Kodaly.

Next, the MPO will proceed to Paris with a performance of Delibes' Coppelia: Entr'acte and Waltz, followed by a musical sojourn in Vienna for music from the Strauss family.

Radetzky March and Cuckoo Polka will entice the audience with the stirring and merriment nature of the dances.

From Europe, the MPO will then cross the continent and oceans to present a selection from Copland's cowboy ballet, Rodeo, and later, to Mexico to perform Danzon No.2, one of Marquez's fascinating music pieces to bring the concert to a rousing end.

Tickets are priced from RM108 to RM288. The family package receives a 20 per cent discount on ticket prices (limited to four family members) which are valid only at the Box Office.
