#Showbiz: Hannah celebrates Yeoh's Oscar win with inspirational quote

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has congratulated Malaysia's first Oscar winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh for her "inspirational win".

Yeoh won Best Actress in the Oscars for her role as Evelyn Wang in the science-fiction film Everything Everywhere All At Once today.

"Congratulations Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh. An inspiration to all of us," said Hannah in a Facebook post shortly after Ipoh-born Yeoh won Best Actress.

Hannah included Yeoh's bold statement addressed to women in her acceptance speech, "Ladies, don't let anybody ever tell you that you are past your prime".

Yeoh, 60, beat four other nominees, Cate Blanchett (Tar), Viola Davis (The Woman King), Ana De Armas (Blonde) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till) to win Best Actress at the awards in the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, the United States

Yeoh's co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Jonathan Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

Yeoh recently won Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture, Musical Or Comedy at the Golden Globes Awards and last month, she became the first Asian to win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2023 for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role.
