#Showbiz: 'Malaysia boleh!' says Michelle Yeoh's mom of daughter's Oscar win [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: International actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh made her home country proud today for being the first Malaysian to win an Academy Award.

But no one was prouder than her mother Datin Janet Yeoh, who was visibly overwhelmed when the Hollywood actress was announced as winner of the Best Actress award.

"I'm very happy but too overwhelmed to say much.

"She certainly deserved it and I had no doubt at all that she would win it," she said after a viewing party for the live broadcast of the awards ceremony this morning at Dadi Cinema in Pavilion KL here.

The sprightly 84-year-old added: "She's a very hardworking girl and I love her very much."

'Malaysia boleh!' she said.

Yeoh, 60, who won the award for her main role in the metaverse action drama Everything Everywhere All At Once, dedicated her win to her beloved mother.

In her acceptance speech from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, she said: "I dedicate this to my mother."

Yeoh also thanked Malaysia and all the people here who have supported her throughout her long and storied career.

"This is for you. I'm bringing this home," she said.

The viewing party for the 95th Academy Awards show was attended over 200 guests including the Yeoh family, relatives and friends, as well as various dignitaries, celebrities and media personnel.
