#HEALTH: Preventing stigma

SOMETIMES, stigma can kill more than the disease and this is especially true for those living with HIV.

The presence of stigma and discrimination towards those living with HIV is a fact that Malaysians shy away from, even though it remains a pressing issue in society.

To put a stop to this, an anti-stigma campaign titled "Benci Penyakit

bukan Pesakit" was organised on Sept 27 at Klinik Kesihatan Salak, involving 40 healthcare workers including doctors, nurses and medical assistants from various healthcare facilities in the Sepang district.

The campaign was a joint effort between eight medical students from the University of Malaya (UM) and the Sepang Health District office.

It aimed to promote better understanding of HIV and reduce stigma and discrimination towards those living with the virus among healthcare workers.
