#JOM! GO: Celebrating Lunar New Year with lucky rabbits

THE rabbit is a lovable and soft creature, that no one can resist hugging, petting and snuggling with.

This cuddly mammal is the luckiest of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. It symbolises longevity, peace and prosperity in Chinese culture, with the Year of the Rabbit predicted to be a year of hope.

As we hop into the Year of the Rabbit this coming Lunar New Year, let's visit some of Malaysia's famous rabbit attractions.

D'MESILAU RABBIT GARDEN, KUNDASANG, SABAH

Though not as famous as Kundasang's dairy farms, D'Mesilau Rabbit Garden is still an awesome attraction for you to visit in the Ranau district.

Like the dairy farms, the rabbit garden has the spectacular view of the rugged mountain range, as it is located just outside of Kinabalu Park.

This makes it the highest rabbit garden in Malaysia, located at an altitude of 1538m above sea level.

Visitors can also expect cool temperatures ranging between 15C and 25C, and if you come in the morning, you can experience a misty atmosphere.

In a setting that looks like Hobbiton for bunnies, the hillside park is home to various species of rabbits.

Since they are quite friendly, visitors can pet, feed and play with them. Treats for the bunnies are sold at the entrance. The D'Mesilau Rabbit Garden is open daily from 8am to 4pm.

RABBIT FUN LAND, LENGGENG, NEGRI SEMBILAN

Located in Lenggeng, the Rabbit Fun Land, also known as Lenggeng Eco Agro Farm, is also another exciting rabbit farm in Malaysia.

Children can explore the farm and interact with cuddly bunnies that roam freely, and feed them.

There are also goats, sheep, deer, camels, ostriches, ponies and donkeys.

The park also offers group packages for schoolchildren and families which include demonstrations on organic farming techniques and proper animal care.

Since the farm also breeds various rabbit species for its meat, visitors get to enjoy rabbit meat delicacies like the signature rabbit mee hoon, claypot rice, satay and much more. Frozen rabbit meat is also sold here, together with free range poultry, river patin, fresh cow's milk, pasteurised goat's milk, as well as assorted vegetables.

Visitors can also go for pony rides, cross a hanging bridge, and partake in fish-feeding.

The park opens daily from 10am to 6.30pm, except on Monday and public holidays.

RABBIT PARK, COLMAR TROPICALE, PAHANG

One of the most famous rabbit parks in Malaysia, the Rabbit Park at Colmar Tropicale in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, is home to over 200 cute rabbits.

Visitors can pet and feed them in an open area where they are free to roam.

The park has restrooms, a snack and beverage area, a small outdoor playground, and an indoor playpen, making it a great attraction for families with kids.

As it is part of the vast Berjaya Hotels and Resort's properties, visitors can complete the highland excursion by visiting the Japanese Garden where they can experience a tea ceremony while dressed in a kimono, explore the Botanical Garden to learn about flowers, and even ride marvelous Palomino horses.

The highland resort also offers fantasy castle-like hotels for guests who want a longer stay.
