Hyundai opens booking for Ioniq 5 at RM1,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai's electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Ioniq 5, is now open for booking at all authorised Hyundai showrooms with a booking fee of RM1,000.

Customers can select one of the two electric motor layouts, either one with a rear motor only or one with both front and rear motors, and two battery pack options of either 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh. All variations deliver a top speed of 185kph.

Built on Hyundai's dedicated BEV architecture, Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) for an elongated wheelbase, the Ioniq 5 is offered with 20-inch aero-optimised wheels which is the largest rims ever fitted to a Hyundai EV.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) managing director Low Yuan Lung said the Ioniq 5 offers an innovative interior design with eco-friendly materials, strong performance mated with ultra-fast charging and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

"Coupled with advanced connectivity and driver assistance features, the Ioniq 5 offers drivers the ultimate in-car experience while ensuring safety," he added.

Adopting Hyundai's "Parametric Dynamics" design first seen on the Elantra, the car's front bumper is defined by a V-shape design and signature daytime running lights (DRLs). These small pixel-like clusters also appear at the rear of the vehicle.

The C-pillar shape is inspired by Hyundai's '45' EV concept.

Sime Darby Motors Malaysia retail and distribution managing director Jeffrey Gan said Hyundai is expected to lead the electric vehicle market segment in Malaysia as more electric vehicles are expected to be rolled out over the next 3 years.

"The Kona Electric introduced last year was a resounding success with the first batch of vehicles sold out. We expect demand for the Ioniq 5 to surpass the demand for the Kona Electric. Given how well received Hyundai-brand electric vehicles are here, we have lined up more electric models for our discerning customers," he said.

A boxed-up teaser display of the Ioniq 5 will be at 1 Utama Shopping Centre's Centre Court (Ground Floor) from now till March 6.
