Ora Good Cat priced from RM139,800, sold 5,400 units in Thailand within a year

SUBANG JAYA: Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia's Ora Good Cat is now officially in the market in two variants at a very competitive price point for an electric vehicle (EV).

Available as the 400 Pro and 500 Ultra, the cars come in two-tone and mono-tone colours, an intelligent LED headlamp system shaped like cat-eyes, sporty 18-inch alloy wheels, and LED taillight strip embedded throughout the rear.

As indicated by its name, the 400 Pro with a lithium iron phosphate battery capacity of 47.8kWh has an electric driving range (according to the NEDC) of 400km.

Battery life cycle is up to 3,000 times and can be charged (DC fast charge) from 30 to 80 per cent in 32 minutes (40 minutes from 0-80 per cent, 8 hours with AC normal charger).

It has a maximum power of 105kW and maximum torque of 210Nm. Its max speed is 152kph.

Cabin is equipped with a 7-inch Cluster Display, an electronic driver massage seat, 10.25-inch Multimedia Touch Screen Display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electronic rotary gear shifter located at the centre console, a fully electric panoramic sunroof, as well as foldable leather seats that can accommodate up to 858 litres of storage space.

The more premium 500 Ultra variant has a battery capacity of 63.1kWh and an electric driving range of 500km from one single charge. Its performance is largely similar to that of the 400 Pro except that it has five driving modes ranging from Normal, Sport, Eco, Eco+, and Auto.

Sport Mode allows the car a 0-100kph sprint in 7.9 seconds. Its larger battery can be charged (DC) from 30 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes (60 minutes from 0-80 per cent, 10 hours with AC normal charger).

It also comes with an integrated intelligent parking system that assists in three modes of automatic parking, high definition 360-degree cameras and a wisdom dodge system that can detect and avoid large vehicles within its proximity, and an auto emergency braking system.

The more affordable 400 Pro is priced from RM139,800 while the higher spec 500 Ultra is priced at RM169,800.

GWM also introduced a 4-in-1 Purr-fect package where Ora Good Cat buyers can enjoy a complimentary portable and home charger, a 5-year or up to 150,000 km warranty, an 8-year or up to 180,000 km battery warranty, and 5 times free service labour maintenance.

Along with its specifications, GWM is also providing their customers with 24-hour roadside assistance through their appointed panel insurance company and a spare parts warehouse which has been established in Shah Alam.

"With its unique engine and features, Ora Good Cat is GWM's first car in Malaysia that was designed with sustainability in mind based on our Asean New Energy Strategy. We aim to do our part in contributing towards a greener and more sustainable society that makes living better," he added.

Ora Good Cat has received more than 100 bookings in less than three days ever since its initial pre-booking release from Nov 11 at the Malaysia Motor Expo.

The first batch of cars expected to be delivered in December. Customers can also view and test-drive the car at GWM's designated authorised dealers in Glenmarie, Puchong, and Penang.

GWM has said there are plans for the car to be locally assembled (CKD) starting some time next year in collaboration with its existing local partner Go Auto. The public can expect to see more models to make its way into the market in the coming months especially starting 2023.

In Thailand, GWM has sold around 5,400 Ora Good Cats since November 2021 with 4,200 of them delivered at present.
