Shafie's party name, logo approved, to be called 'Parti Warisan Sabah'

PUTRAJAYA: Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal today announced that his new political party will be known as Parti Warisan Sabah, replacing Parti Pembangunan Warisan Sabah which was established in 2013.

He said the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved the logo and name for the revived political party in a letter dated Oct 13.

The Semporna MP arrived at 9am at the RoS office and was accompanied by Penampang MP Darrell Leikeng and Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong. Darell recently quit PKR to join Shafie's party.

“The party will be known as Warisan for short and Darrell is the deputy president.

“We will also have three vice-presidents including Jaujan, Likas assemblyman Junz Wong and Kadazan Dusun Murut Association president Datuk Peter Anthony,” Shafie told reporters after meeting the RoS, today.

He said the logo for Warisan, featuring a ship signified hope for the people of Sabah.

He added that the party, to be helmed by him, would contest in the 14th General Election. Candidates for the polls were still being finalised.

Last month, Shafie confirmed he had taken over a party in Sabah that was formed in 2013.

He had gone to RoS to finalise changes for the party, including its logo, name, and other details.

Shafie announced his decision to leave Umno on July 4 after the party's Supreme Council decided to suspend his membership on Jun 24, pending a report from the Umno disciplinary committee.

Apart from the suspension of Shafie, the Umno supreme council had also sacked Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar and Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir from the party.
