Marine police seize contraband liqour, cars worth over RM280,000

JOHOR BARU: Marine police here seized 151 cartons of contraband liquor that were being transported in two cars on Monday night in Gelang Patah.

Region 2 Marine Operation Force (MOF) commander Assistant Commissioner Muhd Zailani Abdullah said a team on patrol which became suspicious of two cars followed the vehicles into the Forest City coastal area.

"The team then stopped the two cars in two separate areas in Gelang Patah and detained two drivers, a local man aged 28 and a Myanmar national aged 32.

"During the first inspection in Taman Nusaria, the team found 64 cartons of contraband liqour in the car while in the second raid in Medan Nusa Bestari, the team found 87 cartons of contraband liquor in the car.

"The seized liqour and cars are valued at RM282,281.70. The suspects and the seized items were taken to the MOF base for further action," he said in a statement.

Zailani said the case was being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
