Rubber tapper arrested for falsifying letter using King's name

KUANTAN: Police have arrested a rubber tapper for allegedly falsifying a letter bearing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's name for logging and mining activities.

The 51-year-old suspect from Sik, Kedah, was arrested at the Gurun police station compound about 1.25pm today.

Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the suspect was arrested following a police report lodged against him for allegedly misusing a letter with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's name.

"The suspect had used the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's name to move timber, kayu jaras, and conduct illegal mining activities from the Hulu Jerai forest reserve in Lipis, Pahang. The application was allegedly made by a company known as TJ Botak Group Sdn Bhd.

"Checks revealed the company had never made such an application and the Sultan of Pahang's office had not issued any supporting letter for such activities as claimed in the letter. The complainant also wanted police to probe a "surat kuning" issued by one Y.T.M Paktam," he said in a statement today.

Wazir said the suspect's modus operandi was using a false letter bearing the name "Conference of Rulers" (Majlis Raja-Raja Melayu) to secure approval to move timber, kayu jaras, and conduct mining activities in Lipis.

He said the suspect will be charged at the Raub Sessions court tomorrow with forgery under Section 466 of the Penal Code.
