Two charged with murder of Kepong man

KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man and a mechanic were today charged with murdering a 21-year-old man last month.

P. Thiagarajan, 42, and Elias Zainal Abidin, 44, nodded in understanding when they were jointly-charged at the Magistrate's Court here.

However, no plea was recorded after the charges were read out to them before magistrate Wong Chai Sia.

Thiagarajan and Elias - who worked as a mechanic - were accused of killing M. Tushilen at Block E, Flat Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Intan Baiduri near Kepong between 10am and 1pm on Nov 25.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death sentence.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Ahmad Hakimi Wan Ahmad Jaafar prosecuted while both of the accused were unrepresented.

The court fixed Feb 18 for mention.

Several people believed to be family members of one of the accused were seen sitting in the public gallery during the proceedings.

It was reported that Sentul Police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said the victim went to the scene to set up tents before heading to Block E of the housing project to buy food.

He said two men on a motorcycle later arrived at the scene before one of them disembarked and slashed the victim.

He said the victim managed to run to another block about 200 metres away before his body was discovered by a passer-by at 10am.
