GOF seizes RM4.2mil worth of syabu at Kelantan border [NSTTV]

PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF), in the biggest seizure so far this year, confiscated about RM4.2 million worth of syabu in an 'Op Benteng' operation near Rantau Panjang yesterday.

However, no one was arrested in the 4am operation which took place at an abandoned house in Kampung Lubok Gong.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar said a GOF team from the Eighth Battalion went to the house which was abandoned after a fire incident in 2017, following public tip-offs.

"The seven-men team had been waiting at the area for almost 10 hours but no one turned up. They then proceeded to inspect the area and discovered six plastic packages under the stairs.

"Upon further inspection, they discovered a few other small packages inside the plastic packages containing 107kg of drugs believed to be syabu," he told a Press conference at Pasir Mas police station today.

Also present at the press conference were Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigations chief Assistant Commissioner Sheik Azhar Sheik Omar and GOF Eighth Battalion commanding officer Superintendent Muhammad Shamsuddin.

Hasan Basri said initial investigations showed that the syabu was for local distribution as well as for markets outside of Kelantan.

"Early investigationa also revealed that the syabu will be sold to more than 100,000 drug addicts in a few states," he added.

On another develepment, Hasan said the GOF Eighth Battalion also detained two drug addicts for the possession of 171 pills worth about RM60,000 in an operation yesterday.

He said the two were detained in a raid at a hut in Kampung Kubang Pusu near Jeram Perdah at about 4.30pm.

Since early this year, 15 people including a woman were detained by the GOF battalions for various drug offences.

"The GOF battalions recorded 16 cases of drug smuggling actvities along the Kelantan/Thai border since January this year with a seizure of drugs worth RM4.4 million," he said.
