KOTA BARU: Police have distributed pictures of fugitive businessman Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee at all border states in case the 33-year-old tries to flee the country.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the move was taken soon after police discovered his illegal activities last month.

"The General Operations Force (GOF) who currently man the country's borders, were told to step up operations against the suspect.

"His picture has been distributed to all states situated at the country's borders in case he tries to sneak out via illegal channels including rat routes," he told reporters after launching the new base for the GOF's Eighth Battalion in Pengkalan Chepa today.

Also present were KDNKA deputy director Deputy Commissioner Datuk Kasuahdi Ali, GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar and Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat.

Abdul Rahim also warned the GOF members especially those stationed along the borders, that stern action can be taken against those found conspiring with Liow.

"I was informed that not all the 34 individuals said to be colluding with the Nicky Gang and its leader are from the police force and at the moment, the Federal police Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) is in the midst of obtaining the names of policemen allegedly involved," he added.

On the new base, he said the RM200 million project which was completed in 2012, would accommodate more than 500 GOF members.

"This shows that the Government is really concerned over the living standards of GOF members who have been taking care of the country," he added.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador earlier said police have crippled an international organised crime group called 'Geng Nicky' believed to be involved in Macau Scams and money laundering activities.

A total 68 people were arrested and cash and assets worth millions of ringgit seized in 70 raids around Selangor and the Klang Valley recently.

The IGP had also revealed that 34 people, including members of the force, were believed to have had a role in allowing Winner Dynasty Group founder Liow to escape the Ops Pelican 3.0 dragnet to nab him.

Police believed Liow would attempt to leave the country illegally with millions of ringgit in cash to escape arrest.

They also have submitted an application to include him in the International Criminal Police Organisation's (Interpol) wanted list.

Liow is wanted for a slew of crimes, including an online scam operation targeting mainland Chinese nationals.

He is also believed to be involved with the leader of an international drug trafficking syndicate, known as the 14K, Wan Kuok Koi @ Broken Tooth.
