KOTA BARU: A 37-year-old labourer was charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of sexually assaulting his five-year-old daughter in March last year.
Berita Harian reported that the man pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the charge read in front of judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
According to his first charge, the man had assaulted his daughter's private parts, in a room at a house in Pasir Puteh at 3pm in March last year. The girl was 5 years and 11 months old at the time.
The offence was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and a person can be punished under Section 14 of the same act. The offence was read together with Section 16 of the same act.
For his second charge, the man was charged with intentionally committing oral sex on the victim at the same time and location.
This offence is framed under Section 14(d) of the same act, and a person can be punished under Section 14 of the same act. It was read together with Section 16 of the same act.
The man could face up to 20 years in jail and whipping, upon conviction of these two offences.
Deputy public prosecutor, Mohd Faizuan Sulaiman did not offer any bail to the accused.
During his appeal, the man told the court that he needed to fend for a child and a wife, who was ill.
"I did not do this, and I do not know anything," he said. The court fixed June 8 for re-mention.
