Police arrest four snatch theft suspects

TUARAN: Police yesterday arrested four people, including a woman, on suspicion of being involved in a snatch theft at Kampung Rongolis Topokon, Tamparuli, near here.

Deputy district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hamizi Halim said the suspects, aged 20 to 23, were detained in a series of separate arrests beginning 11am.

The snatch theft took place at 6pm on Saturday when the victim, an 18-year-old woman, was playing a mobile game by the roadside together with her sister and cousin.

"The three were approached by the four suspects in a white Perodua Alza car from the direction of Pekan Tenghilan. A man came out wearing a helmet and pretended to ask the name of the village, before snatching her mobile phone.

"Following a report lodged, police managed to detain all the suspects," he said, adding that two of the four suspects have criminal records.

Three of the suspects also tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

All were remanded for four days until May 21.
