Drugs worth RM14.5 million seized, 2 syndicates busted, 8 arrested

SHAH ALAM: Police seized drugs worth an estimated RM14.5 million and arrested eight local men from two separate drug trafficking syndicates operating in the Klang Valley, on May 17 and 18.

Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said during the raid, police confiscated cash, jewellery, four luxury watches and five vehicles as well as money in accounts with a total value of RM1.39 million.

He said the drugs seized comprised 934.41 kg of heroin, 170 kg of syabu, 1.45 grams of cannabis and 524 ecstasy pills.

"In the first case on May 17, at about 1.20pm, Bukit Aman's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) team nabbed a man in Bandar Kinrara.

"Police seized 10 plastic packages suspected to contain Syabu weighing 10.3 kg and 14 packages containing suspected heroin weighing of 6.3 kg," he said in a press conference via Google Meet, today.

Arjunaidi said that at 2.15 pm on the same day, guided by the first suspect, the police went to the 14th floor of the same condominium and seized several plastic bags and a box.

"It contained 27 plastic packages containing suspected Syabu weighing 29.2 kg and 129 plastic packages of suspected heroin weighing 84.51 kg.

"On the same day, at 1.45pm, police raided a terrace house in Bandar Kinrara and arrested a man as well as seizing six transparent plastic packets containing 524 ecstasy pills, two plastic packets containing dried plants weighing 1.45 grams and one plastic packet containing Syabu weighing 2.32 grams.

"Police also searched the upper floor of the house, and found RM1.08 million cash believed to be income derived from drug distribution activities," he said.

Following the two raids, he said, the police managed to arrest four men at four different locations in Brickfields and Subang Jaya.

"The arrests from this syndicate involved six men aged between 24 and 45 years old and all the suspects had previous drug (offence) records while the results from urine test found one of them to be positive for ganja use.

Meanwhile, Arjunaidi said, at 3.30pm the next day, the Selangor NCID busted the second syndicate following the arrest of a man in Seri Kembangan.

"The suspect then took them to a nearby house and police seized two canvas bags as well as two boxes containing 148 pieces of suspected heroin base weighing 56.24 kg and four canvas bags containing 78 packages of suspected Syabu weighing at 79.54 kg.

"Police also found some equipment used for drug packaging activities.

"On the same day, at about 4.40pm, police raided a condominium in Seri Kembangan and detained another man for investigation.

"Police then went to the parking lot of the condominium and checked a Volkswagen car and found three canvas bags in the boot of the vehicle containing 50 packages containing suspected Syabu weighing 51 kg," he said.

He said a urine screening on the suspects, aged 25 and 41, was negative.

Arjunaidi said the suspects from the two syndicates were remanded for between two to seven days starting May 18.

The case was investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"The investigation found that the first syndicate group had been operating for about three months while the second syndicate since the beginning of the year."
