Six nabbed at wild party in Butterworth

BUTTERWORTH: Police nabbed six people, including a woman, on suspicion of being involved in a wild party and flouting the movement restriction at a house here yesterday.

Seberang Prai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the six, aged between 21 and 38, were engrossed in entertaining themselves when police arrived in the wee hours of yesterday morning.

He said checks inside the premises led police to the recovery of a speaker and a laser display for party purposes.

He added that all six were arrested under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Regulation 10(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for violating the ongoing lockdown.

"Urine tests on three of the five men came back positive for meth while another man and the woman were tested positive for ketamine.

"All of them have been brought to the district police headquarters for the next course of action," he added.

Meanwhile, Noorzainy said since the implementation of the lockdown between last Tuesday (June 1) and yesterday, the district police issued compounds to some 191 individuals, totalling RM725,500.

He said the highest number of non-adherence of the standard operating procedures (SOP) was for interstate and inter district travel, where 66 individuals were slapped with compounds amounting to RM330,000.

"We hope that everyone will play their part to stop the spread of the Covid-19. We will not hesitate to take action against anyone who engages in activities which they are not supposed to during this lockdown period.

"Anyone with information on non-compliance of the SOPs can inform the nearest police station," he added.
