The four, aged between 25 and 37, were picked up during a raid at a house in Jalan Pantai Bersih, Butterworth at about 10.15am yesterday, about an hour after police received a report about the break-in.

It is learnt that the break-in was realised by a family member, who found the house in a mess.

Further checks showed several belongings and a vehicle missing, which included a Honda CRV, branded bags, foreign currency and a laptop.

It is also learnt that a checks on the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed the men entering the double-storey house at about 5am.

Meanwhile, state police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan confirmed the break-in at the mayor's official residence.

He said investigations were ongoing and they were still identifying several more individuals, who may be involved in the incident.

He added that with the arrest of the four, police had solved the break-in incident in less than 24 hours.

"We also managed to recover some of the stolen items, including the vehicle.

"That is all I can say for now as investigations are ongoing and we are still tracking down the other suspects," he said.
