Sarawak police bust drug syndicate, seize over 5kg ganja [NSTTV]

KUCHING: Police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate dubbed 'MICA' last Friday, with the arrest of four people and the seizure of 5.253 kg of ganja.

Deputy police commissioner DCP Mancha Ata said a team from the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department conducted four raids in different locations in Kuching and Samarahan.

He said the police raided a residential unit at Pending Height at 11.15am and nabbed an unemployed woman and a man who works as a labourer.

The police confiscated 13 transparent plastic packets containing dried leaves believed to be ganja, which was about 960g, he said.

Following the first raid and information obtained from the two suspects, the police nabbed another man in a car parked near a shop in Tabuan Jaya at 4.20pm.

"The police discovered 505g of ganja hidden underneath the car's floor mat," Machan told reporters at the Sarawak police headquarters today.

He said the team conducted a third raid at a residential unit in Taman Desa Ilmu, Samarahan at 4.30pm and arrested a woman and found 14.9g ganja and 1g ketamine in her room.

The two suspects the led police to a shophouse nearby where 3.774 kg of ganja was found in a black rubbish bin.

"Police seized drugs worth RM25,295, a vehicle and RM3,300 in cash in the four raids. The drugs would have been able to cater to 5,300 addicts," he said.

All the suspects aged between 26 and 35, have been detained and remanded until July 17.

He said investigations are being carried out in accordance with Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, and Sections 6, 12(2) and 15 (1) (a) of the same act.
