Filipino charged with using someone else's MyKad to get vaccinated

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino who used another person's MyKad to get the Covid-19 vaccine was charged in the magistrate's court here.

Albin Janani, 28, is also facing two charges of cheating by personation to get the said jab and for a Covid-19 swab test.

However, no plea was recorded from the foreigner who works as a waiter after the charges were read out to him before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, in a proceeding that was conducted online to curb the spread of Covid-19.

On the first count, Albin was accused of using a MyKad to get the Covid-19 vaccine at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah (KDCA) vaccination centre (PPV) in Penampang at 3.26pm on Aug 12.

The alleged offence was under Rule 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries a jail term of up three years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

On the second count, Albin was accused of cheating Jason Jr Bernard by making it look like he (the accused) was the real owner of the said MyKad which then prompted Jason to give Albin the Covid-19 vaccine shot on the same day and time.

On the third count, Albin had allegedly committed a similar offence by deceiving Lella Sumporo at the Permai Polyclinic in Putatan for a swab test on the same day at 10am.

For cheating by personation, both charges were under Section 419 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The court fixed Sept 15 for re-mention and for Albin's plea to be recorded.

In the meantime, the undocumented accused will be further detained pending the disposal of his cases.

Inspector Suzie@Stephanie Kupit prosecuted the cases, while Albin was unrepresented.
