Lorry driver nabbed for smuggling Thai noodle mee and sauces

RANTAU PANJANG: A lorry driver was nabbed for smuggling Thai instant noodle mee and sauces worth more than RM14,000 last night.

The 21-year-old driver was travelling from Rantau Panjang to Pasir Mas when he was arrested.

General Operations Force (GOF) Seventh battalion commanding officer Superintendent Azhari Nusi said the GOF members stoppped the lorry when it passed the area about 7pm.

"Upon checking on the vehicle, they found 87 boxes containing the instant noodle mee and the souces.

"They then detained the lorry driver," he said in a statement.

Azhari said initial investigation showed that the food had been smuggled into Kelantan via an illegal jetty at the border.

"We suspect the smuggled items will be distributed to local suppliers.

"The lorry driver is being held for further action," he added.
