Lorry conductor fined for making death threats

IPOH: A 36-year-old lorry conductor was fined RM2,100 by the Magistrate's Court here today for threatening to murder an individual and insulting a policewoman, in December last year.

Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus handed down the sentence on G. Patrick Dass who pleaded guilty to both charges.

According to the first charge, the man was accused of intimidating M. Suriyan, 21, by threatening to kill him.

The offence was committed at a house in Persiaran Tawas Permai 8, Taman Tawas Permai, here at about 6.52pm on Dec 19, 2021.

For this offence, he was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum two years' jail or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

According to the second charge, he was accused of disgraceful conduct by uttering a foul word in the Tamil language at Inspector P. Munesuwari who was on duty at the Criminal Investigating Officer's Office, Ipoh District Police Headquarters at about 8.30pm on the same date.

For this offence, he was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 which carries a maximum penalty of RM100 fine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sufi Aiman Azmi prosecuted while the accused was represented by J. Kala.

During mitigation, Kala asked for a minimum sentence as the accused only earns RM1,200 monthly and he needs to look after his wife, mother, and three children aged between six and 12.

Noor Azreen Liana then fined the accused RM2,000 for the first charge and RM100 for the second charge.

Noor Azreen Liana also sentenced the accused to four months' jail if he failed to pay the fine for the first charge, and 14 days in jail if he failed to pay the fine for the second charge.

The man paid the fine.
