Four illegals working as GROs nabbed in Sungai Petani [NSTTV]

SUNGAI PETANI: Four women, all illegals, were nabbed at an entertainment outlet in Bakar Arang, here, early yesterday.

Kedah Immigration Department deputy director Rosmaliza Mohamed Rashid said the women, two Thais and two Laotians, were believed to be working as Guest Relations Officers (GRO) at the outlet.

They were also detained for overstaying and not possessing proper work permits.

"The raid was carried out following a tip-off that the women were working as GROs at the premises.

"Checks showed there was a secret exit connecting the entertainment outlet on the upper floor of a double-storey shop lot, to the ground floor, to allow the GROs to flee during a raid," she said.

However, the department managed to detain four of the GROs during the 12.15am raid which saw 36 individuals inspected.

It was learnt that the premises had just started operating at the new commercial area.

Rosmaliza said the women were sent to Immigration Department detention depot in Belantik for further investigations.
