ALOR SETAR: Kedah police have detained a man following the seizure of fireworks worth about RM65,000 from a house in Tikam Batu, Sungai Petani yesterday.

It was learnt that the 2.30pm raid by a team from the state police D4 department led to the seizure of 65 boxes containing 2,041 varieties of fireworks and firecrackers worth about RM65,000.

The raid was carried out at a house where the suspect, in his 30s, had been storing the supply, sourced from Bukit Kayu Hitam.

It was also learnt that he had been delivering the fireworks to his customers.

Kedah police chief Commissioner Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad confirmed the raid and the suspect's arrest.

Wan Hassan said the raid was led by Inspector Abu Khairi Ahmad from the D4 department under Ops Aidilfitri.

"We are still investigating how he obtained the supply and this is the first case involving a huge amount of fireworks in the state this year," he said.

Wan Hassan also reminded the public to apply for a permit to sell firecrackers that complied with government rules and regulations.

He also warned the public against buying smuggled fireworks and firecrackers which could pose a danger to them.
