Sabah civil servant remanded 6 days to assist in palm oil tax fraud

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Magistrate here has granted six days of remand for a civil servant to assist in a probe into crude palm oil tax declaration fraud.

Judge Jessica Ombou Kakayun said the 66-year-old suspect will be remanded from today until May 26.

The suspect was represented by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin.

The civil servant is the third suspect to be arrested in the case.

On May 18, the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission nabbed a senior government official and also picked up a retiree. The duo were remanded from May 19 to May 25.

Both of them allegedly solicited and accepted bribes, amounting to about RM700,000 from a palm oil mill company in return for protecting the forgery of monthly palm oil sales tax declarations to the state Finance Ministry.
