Police nab computer technician, seize bitcoin machines

PASIR MAS: Police raided a house used to carry out illegal bitcoin mining operations and seized various bitcoin machines worth thousands of ringgit in an operation here last night.

A 32-year-old man was also arrested in the midnight operation at Jalan Pasir Pekan.

Pasir Mas police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin Md Nasir said police raided the house following tip-offs.

"Police found the bitcoin mining machines and later detained the suspect who is a computer technician," he said in a statement.

Nasaruddin said the total seizure, valued between RM30,000 and RM40,000, includes bitcoin machines, several blowers and power supply units as well as monitors and keyboards.

Initial investigations showed that the suspect had been carrying out the activities over the last few months.

He said the seizure of bitcoin mining machines was the first made by the district police this year.
