MACC opens probe on Kedah exco member over alleged fund misappropriation

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds involving a Kedah executive council member.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the probes were related to suspected misappropriation of the state's economic stimulus funds two years ago.

It was learnt that the fund was part of the Covid-19 economic stimulus package in 2020.

"It is still at an early stage of the investigations.

"The state exco member concerned has yet to be called to give a statement over the allegations, but probably it will be done soon," said one the sources who spoke to the New Straits Times on condition of anonymity.

Earlier today, Kubang Rotan assemblyman Asmirul Anuar Aris had uploaded a Facebook post asking who was the state exco member being investigated by the MACC.

"Who is the exco member concerned? What is the issue?" the posting read.

The Parti Amanah Negara assemblyman also dared Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to issue a statement that the latter would not protect the exco member concerned.

"If it is true that the YAB MB will not tolerate any wrongdoing, we hope he will issue a statement that he will not protect the exco member and will cooperate fully with MACC on the matter," added Asmirul.
