MACC detains enforcement officer over MyKad-linked bribe

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained an enforcement officer over an alleged graft linked to the issuance of a MyKad.

The suspect, 42, had allegedly solicited and received a RM5,000 bribe from a person as payment to handle the issuance of a Malaysian identity card.

A source said the suspect was apprehended at the Sandakan MACC branch office today at 9.30am and had his statement recorded.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) and Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009.

"The suspect has been released under MACC bail and is expected to be charged at the Sandakan special corruption court at the end of this month," he said.
