KOTA BARU: An addict, 30, believed to be linked to the three-year-old boy, who is critically ill after drugs were found in his body, was remanded seven days from today to assist investigations into the case.

Police obtained the remand order, which ends on June 27, against the addict at the Machang court.

Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun confirmed police got the remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

He said police were investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of The Child Act 2001 for abandoning, neglecting or exposing a child to danger and causing/or to cause the child him/her physical or emotional injury.

Zaki said police were informed that the boy was taken by the suspect, who is the three-year-old's uncle, to a location on Saturday evening.

He said this was revealed by the victim's mother in her report lodged at the Dabong police station yesterday.

"The 36-year-old mother said she found her son weak when he returned to their home in Kampung Sri Bintang on Saturday evening.

"Her boy's face had also turned blue when he was sleeping. The mother immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital."

He told reporters this at a press conference on the seizure of about RM200,000 worth of drugs here today.

Doctors. upon checking the child found drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, in the boy's body, he said.

"We are investigating whether the boy accidentally took the drugs or was forced to take it," he added.

He said the boy was been warded at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.

It was learnt that the boy now suffers from drug toxicity which occurs when a person's body has accumulated too many prescription drugs in the bloodstream.
