Drugged-up 3-year-old: Police seize suspect's car

KOTA BARU: Police have seized a car used by the man who was detained in the case of a 3-year-old boy with drugs in his body.

Acting Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said a small quantity of drugs and related paraphernalia found inside the Proton Saga were also seized.

"Police are still investigating the case, and this includes determining whether the boy had accidentally taken the drugs while inside the car," he told reporters today after visiting the boy who is warded at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.

Accompanying him during the visit was Kelantan Police Family Association (Perkep) chairman Suzana Yashin.

Zaki said police believed that the boy may have been brought to a drug den by the suspect, who is a close relative.

"Initial investigations revealed that there was no negligence in the case, but it may be more to do with (the suspect) feeling pressure in life," he added.

Zaki said he was informed by doctors that the boy was still in critical condition.

Police received a report on Sunday on the case and they detained the 30-year-old man, believed to be a drug addict. He was remanded for seven days beginning yesterday.

Police are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abandoning, neglecting or exposing a child to danger and causing/or to cause physical or emotional injury to the child.
