Developer says he gave Maurice Lacroix watch costing RM43,000 to Lim Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR: A developer involved in the Penang undersea tunnel project today revealed he handed RM100,000 and a Maurice Lacroix luxury watch to Lim Guan Eng as birthday gifts in 2015.

Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd director Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli said the former Penang chief minister just smiled after receiving the 'gift' in his office on the 28th floor of Komtar.

However, Zarul said Lim only took the luxury watch worth RM43,000.

"I bought the watch from a broker using the money from Consortium Zenith.

"He did not ask for it but I gave it as a gift to make sure our project will run smoothly," he said.

Zarul was testifying in Lim's corruption trial involving the Penang undersea tunnel project.

Lim is facing four charges of using his position as the then chief minister to solicit gratification to help Consortium Zenith Construction to secure the undersea tunnel project.

Lim is alleged to have sought 10 per cent of the profit to be made by the company from its owner, Zarul.

He is also accused of receiving RM3.3 million for himself and causing two plots of land belonging to the state government to be disposed to two companies linked to the tunnel project.
