7-day remand for suspect in murder of woman and baby [NSTTV]

JOHOR BARU: The suspect arrested over the murder of a woman and baby boy in Kampung Bakar Batu here on Monday has been remanded for seven days.

Assistant Registrar Nur Izzaty Muhammad Zahari granted the remand this morning.

The 25-year-old suspect, clad in an orange lock-up suit, arrived at the court complex here about 9am under heavy police guard.

Yesterday, Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the suspect was arrested in Permas Jaya at 2.45pm.

Police also seized a meat cleaver and a motorcycle during the arrest.

Raub said the suspect was the man seen, in a widely circulated video, riding a motorcycle naked.

Police received a report about the death of a 26-year-old woman and a three-month-old baby boy at 12.42am

It is believed that the victims were the wife and son of the suspect.

"Initial investigation found that the murders occurred about 12.30am at a house in Bakar Batu," Raub said in a statement.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty.
