Cops detain boyfriend of woman who allegedly insulted Islam at comedy club

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained the boyfriend of the woman who allegedly insulted Islam during her open mic routine on stage.

Federal police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin today said: "The boyfriend of the woman, who is being investigated for allegedly insulting Islam at a comedy club, was detained on July 10.

"He will be remanded from July 11 to July 13 to assist in investigations."

Noorsiah said police would apply to extend the remand against the woman, whose remand is expected to end tomorrow.

She added that the investigation papers would be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers with the proposed charge.

The woman was arrested after she allegedly insulted Islam during her set at a comedy club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here on Friday.

The woman, who was wearing a tudung, allegedly made degrading religious remarks and took off her baju kurung.

She was wearing a spaghetti-strap dress underneath the attire.
