Housewife and friend charged with murder of husband [NSTTV]

JOHOR BARU: A housewife was charged at the magistrate's court here today with the murder of her husband about two weeks ago.

The accused, Margaret Law, 36, was charged with her male friend, Fam Mee Fatt, 53. Both accused nodded in understanding when the charge was read in front of magistrate Nurmadiana Mamat, although no pleas were recorded.

Law and Fam were accused of murdering Lee Ming How, 44, at 03-14, Blok 11, Jalan Nipah in Taman Daya here at about 2pm on July 14.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 34 of the same Act. The offence carries the mandatory death penalty.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Sharifah Natasha Syed Ahmad and Nur Aqiilah Ahmad Rafael appeared for the prosecution while both accused were unrepresented.

Nurmadiana then fixed Sept 27 for mention of the case and for the post-mortem report. No bail was allowed.

In another proceeding at the same court, Law and Fam were separately accused of administering dangerous drugs to themselves.

Law pleaded guilty to administering methamphetamine and amphetamine into her body after a urine test at the Johor Baru South Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 1.30pm on July 15.

Fam, a labourer, also pleaded guilty to administering methamphetamine into his body at the same place at 12.01am on July 16.

They were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Before sentencing, Law, a mother of three, pleaded for a light sentence as she could not afford to pay the fine while Fam also did the same, saying that he was a single father of one.

Sharifah Natasha, however, asked for a deterrent sentence for both the accused.

Nurmadiana sentenced each to a fine of RM1,700 or six months' jail. Both were also ordered to be put under observation of the National Anti-Drug Agency for two years.

It was reported that Lee's body was found at the family residence on July 15 and he was believed to have been assaulted by his wife.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat was reported as saying that there were binding marks on the victim's legs as well as bruises and stab wounds on the body.

Kamarul Zaman also said drugs and other paraphernalia were found at the house.

Law and Fam were arrested separately on July 15 and were subsequently remanded.
