706 summonses issued during Ops Lejang in Perak [NSTTV]

IPOH: A total of 706 summonses for various offences were issued against motorcyclists during an operation codenamed Ops Lejang between Aug 1 and today.

Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan said during the eight-day operation, a total of 661 motorcycles were inspected.

"Among the highest offences were riding without a licence (100 offences); riding with expired road tax (88 offences) and no insurance coverage (71 offences).

"The department also seized 17 motorcycles throughout the operation. Police were also involved in this operation," he said.

He informed that the operation is being carried out until Sept 30, adding that the Perak RTD would continue to strengthen enforcement against motorcyclists and other vehicles.

"We would like to advise motorcycle owners and riders to avoid getting involved in any illegal racing activities or riding their motorcycles recklessly, which can cause accidents and deaths on the road.

"Those involved in illegal racing and riding motorcycles recklessly, strict action including confiscation of their motorcycles under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 will be enforced," he added.
