KOTA BARU: Police detained a man and seized 125 bottles of heroin worth about RM250,000 in an operation in Tumpat recently.

Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the raid was carried out at Kampung Jubakar near Pengkalan Kubor on Aug 4.

"A police party was conducting its Ops Tapis when they detained the 53-year-old suspect at about 8pm.

"The man was standing next to his motorcycle and after checking the bike, they discovered the drugs," he told a press conference here today.

Zaki said initial investigations showed that the heroin, weighing about 650gm, was smuggled in from a neighbouring country.

"We suspect the drugs were brought into the state via the many illegal jetties along the Kelantan-Thai border.

"The drug is believed to be for the consumption of about 6,500 addicts."

Zaki said police also seized the motorcycle belonging to the suspect, who is a local.

He added the suspect who also tested positive for drugs, had been remanded to assist police investigation into the case.
