Cops arrest 5, seize subsidised diesel, contraband liquor in separate raids

JOHOR BARU: Police arrested five suspects and seized almost 32,000l of subsidised diesel during a raid at a premises in Skudai here on Monday.

Johor Baru Utara deputy police chief Superintendent Fariz Ammar Abdullah said the raid was carried out by a team from the 5th Battalion of the General Operations Force in Kampung Sinaran Baru about 1pm on Monday.

"During the raid, we arrested five suspects aged between 19 and 46 and seized 31,800l of subsidised diesel.

"We also seized two vehicles, numerous fuel tanks, a flow meter and two pumps. The seizures were valued at RM387,850," he said in a statement.

He said the case had been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry for further action.

In another operation, a team from Region 2 of the Marine Operations Force arrested a suspect and seized 29 boxes of contraband liquor.

"Acting on a tip off, the team had earlier stopped a four-wheel-drive vehicle at the Taman Johor industrial area in Kempas after the driver was spotted acting suspiciously.

"Inside the vehicle, the team found 19 boxes of canned Tshingtao beer and 10 boxes of bottled Tshingtao beer. We also seized the vehicle and a mobile phone with the total seizures valued at RM123,271," said Fariz Ammar.

He said the suspect, 31, had been remanded until Aug 20 and the case was being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
