Najib drops newly appointed solicitors, Chief Justice orders hearing to proceed [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: In the latest drama at the Federal Court here, Datuk Seri Najib Razak today discharged his solicitors, Messrs Zaid Ibrahim Suflan TH Liew & Partners, from representing him in the SRC final appeal hearing.

His lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik informed this latest development to Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat immediately after proceedings began this morning.

"The solicitors have been discharged by the appellant," he said after the court was called into session.

However, this did not seem to surprise the panel of judges as Tengku Maimun just reacted by saying proceed, prompting lead prosecutor Datuk V Sithambaram to stand up and continue with his submissions.

It was previously reported that Najib had dropped his long time solicitor Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah from representing him in the SRC appeal just weeks before it was scheduled to begin.

He had then appointed former law minister Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim's firm as his solicitors.

None of the lawyers from the firm were present in court today.
