Najib's second corruption trial resumes at KL High Court

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's second corruption trial over the misappropriation of RM2.3 billion of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds resumed at the High Court today.

The trial, originally slated to resume since Monday, was pushed back due to Najib's final appeal at the Federal Court in the SRC International Berhad case.

On Tuesday, Najib lost his appeal after the Apex court upheld his 12 year jail sentence and RM210 million fine for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International funds.

Clad in a dark suit, Najib entered the courtroom at 10.50am under heavy security.

The former prime minister who was not handcuffed, appeared calm as he took a seat at the dock.

Several Prison Department officers in dark uniform and red berets, were also seen inside the courtroom.

A number of Najib supporters were also seen inside the public gallery.

None of the senior Umno senior politicians were seen in the room.

His wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor was not present.

Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa arrived later and sat outside the courtroom. She was seen greeting her father inside the court holding room earlier.

Earlier, Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was cross-examining Finance Ministry former deputy secretary-general (policy) Datuk Siti Zauyah Mohd Desa.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Ahmad Akram Gharib and Mohamad Mustafa P. Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution.

The trial before Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah is still ongoing.

Najib is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
