School headmistress under MACC probe over procurement of contracts involving family members

ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation against a headmistress in Sungai Petani for allegedly approving procurement contracts for companies belonging to her family members.

A source familiar with the investigations said the 58-year-old headmistress of a disabled school was being probed over school procurement contracts worth over RM20,000 between 2019 and 2021.

"She is being investigated for allegedly abusing her position by making procurements for the school supplies through two companies which are registered under her two sons aged 33 and 31.

"The headmistress was detained after turning up at the MACC office in Sungai Petani this afternoon," said the source.

However, it was learnt that the headmistress was released on MACC bail as she is caring for her ailing husband at home.

When contacted, Kedah MACC director Datuk Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap confirmed the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, but declined to elaborate.
