Police nab woman for allegedly abusing 8-year-old son

KOTA BARU: Police detained a woman for allegedly abusing her eight-year-old son at her home here yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the 36-year-old suspect was detained soon after a police report was lodged by her ex-husband yesterday.

In the report, the ex-husband claimed that he was informed about the incident by his ex-wife's boyfriend on Sept 9.

"The father said that he was at his home in Negri Sembilan when the boyfriend called and informed him that his son was being abused by his ex-wife.

"He then lodged a police report. Following the report, police detained the woman," he said in a statement today.

Rosdi said initial investigations showed that the boy stayed with his mother in Kota Baru after his parents divorced two years ago.

He said the boy was sent for a medical check-up at Raja Perempuan Zainab II hospital here where he received outpatient treatment.

"The boy was later handed over to the Welfare Department. The woman has been remanded for seven days from today to assist police investigation into the case," he said.

A 26-second video clip showing the woman beating the boy with a piece of wood and later throwing a wooden coffee table towards him had also gone viral recently on social media platforms.
